Les Miserables Indianapolis reviews
A Skeptic Proven Wrong!!!
OK, time to be up front and honest. I am very hard to please when it comes to the theatre. I don't get wrapped up in emotion easily.
This production of Les Miserables was BETTER than the traveling show which charged 5x as much for tickets.
I don't think this group is performing anymore, or I would tell you to get your tickets NOW. The man playing Valjean might be the best singer to play this role since Colm Wilkinson.
I thought Javert was a little too beautiful of an actor at first, but the actor's deep voice and great acting transformed the initial skepticism over such a young and handsome police officer.
Marius was Tom Cruise with a voice. Great actor and incredible performer.
Other than Valjean, the Thenardiers stole the show for me. I was laughing the entire time, as the gentleman playing Thenardier used a very different interpretation of the character. Bouncing from lovable to demonic, Thenardier had depth not seen in other productions. His wife Madame Thenardier was a great actress as well and her accent was hilarious.
The supporting cast was also incredible. The brief solos were very good, particularly during Lovely Ladies. As good as the leads were, the energy was maintained by the supporting cast.
Enjolras was a bad mother!! Loved when he fired up the students.
I do not know whether the credit goes to the director or the producer for the vision, but I loved how Valjean was "dreaming" the show based on his memory. Seems like a basic concept but it played brilliantly.
I caught this show closing night and regret having not caught it earlier so I could go back. It is a little frustrating how brief the run was. Why end this show so fast!?!?!?
I wrote an e-mail to Spiro Productions today asking if they will be touring. I will travel to see this group again!
This cast treated me to a much needed evening out. I cried more than I ever have during a show. Truly moving. The best Les Mis cast EVER, and I have seen it in all over!!!
